Data management course

COURSE: DATA MANAGEMENT FOR STUDENTS

In our data management course, we will giva an introduction to the overall principles and practices for handling data in an academic context. In the course, you will be presented with the many considerations you should be making in the various parts of a project - from the initial planning and collection of data, to the storage and sharing of data.

The course is particularly relevant if you plan to collect or generate data as part of the empirical work in your projects or BA/MA thesis. The course is structured around a case, but there will also be allocated time for you to reflect on how you will manage data in your own project.

Data searching course

COURSE: SEARCHING FOR RESEARCH DATA FOR STUDENTS

In our course on data searching, we provide an introduction to a range of strategies you can use to search for research data for your projects at RUC. The course will focus on academic databases, repositories, and search engines tailored for data searching.

The course mainly covers how to find data collected or generated by researchers, but we will also explore strategies that can be used to find data outside the academic world (e.g., official statistics from international organizations).

In the course, you will have an opportunity to try out the different strategies, and we will also cover possible limitations when using others' research data, as well as how to cite the data you find.
